Morpeth Town have completed the signing of centre-back Jeff Henderson.

A defender by trade, he featured in the same Newcastle United junior side as former Town favourite Callum Morris.

Turning out for Sligo Rovers between 2012 and 2015, he enjoyed league and cup success in Ireland, winning the top tier crown in 2012 before FAI Cup and All Ireland Cup glory soon after. The 26-year-old returned to his native North East (playing for Stobswood to regain fitness) after playing in both the Champions League and Europa League competitions.

The centre-back was delighted to get a deal agreed as he looks forward to his debut season in a team also taking their bow in Evo-Stik North. Far from looking to make up the numbers, Henderson has lofty ambitions of his own for the team.

“It’s why I play the game, to win games and be part of the big occasions,” said the centre-half.

“There’s no better feeling and that will be the aim at Morpeth this season; to win.

“I’m really happy to be joining the club as I wanted to get back to playing a good level of football. It’s a great set-up and has been very successful over previous years.

“I’m thankful to be given the opportunity and I am looking to take it with both hands.”
