Morpeth Town are delighted to announce they they’ve completed their second signing of the summer, defender Danny Carson.

The centre-back, who played for South Shields for one-and-a-half seasons, has experience in abundance and will bring a lot to the squad.

“It feels good to get back,” Carson said. “I’ve had half a season off. I’m looking well and I’m trying to get back into it.

“The club (Morpeth), last season, done really well. I was at (South) Shields last season, we played against them, and they were up there against them.”

Carson, who has also played for Jarrow Roofing in the Northern League, revealed that he’s “dying” to get his competitive streak back, and has his sights set on a successful season.

He added: “I’ve had half a season out, I’ve kept myself fit, but I want to improve. I want to get myself better than what I was.”

The Highwaymen completed the sighing of Wayne Phillips from South Shields a few weeks back, and joint manager Nick Gray believes both players will bring a lot to the squad.

“They’re both quality, and they’ll add to the quality that we’ve got here,” Gray said. “We want real quality, it’s going to be a smaller squad this year.

“The two that we’ve brought in, I’m delighted to have them and they’ll just add more to what we’ve got.”

Phillips and Carson could both make their debuts on Saturday, 8 July when the Highwaymen take on Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park.
