Morpeth Town are saddened to hear of the retirement of former player David Hiftle through injury.

The defender played 142 times for The Highwaymen, joining the club when we were struggling in EBAC Northern League Division Two. An integral part of the club’s evolution, Morpeth rose to the higher levels of Division One and won the FA Vase in 2016, at the expense of Hereford FC, with Dickie hugely instrumental in getting us there before missing the final through injury.

After spells at Seaton Delaval, West Allotment, North Shields and Dunston UTS, Hiftle has been forced to call it a day, much to the disappointment of club chairman Ken Beattie.

“Dickie is the type of player that every club looks for; honest, tough and reliable, as well as being an excellent player,” said Beattie.

“During his time here, Dickie helped the club evolve from being a poor second division side to FA Vase winners in 2016. His contribution was invaluable, leading by example both on and off the field. He is held in high esteem by all associated with the club, from fans to club chairman and everyone in between. He will always be welcome here with open arms.”
