Morpeth Town open up their FA Cup campaign against Northern Counties East League side Garforth Town in Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon

Town have opened their season with a win and a draw from their opening two games, with Nick Gray’s side beating Bishop Auckland 3-0 at home before a mid-week draw against newly promoted Washington.

The Opposition

The Highwaymen are eager to put a good cup run together, but have been handed a tricky draw against a side who recently competed in the Northern Premier League Division One. Despite their history, Garforth Town have never managed to get past the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Last season The Miners finished 14th in the competitive NCEL. The club have started well this season, winning their opening two games, a 3-2 home win over Rainworth Miners Welfare, followed by a 2-1 away win over Bridlington Town.

Player to Watch

Mark Simpson – The young striker has had a fantastic start to the season, bagging three goals in the opening two games. Last season he made 22 appearances for The Miners, netting nine times. He’ll be one to watch for the Morpeth Town backline.
