Morpeth Town extended their winning run to six games with a professional performance in a 4-0 win over Guisborough Town at Craik Park.

Keith Graydon opened the scoring after 18 minutes, his free-kick deflected past James Dawson.

Liam Henderson then netted a brace in the second half, before substitute Steven Anderson completed the scoring late in proceedings.

The result sees Morpeth close the gap on North Shields & South Shields at the top of the Northern League table.

Nick Gray and Dave Malone made just two changes from the side that defeated Seaham Red Star on Saturday, Jim Provett came in for a rested Karl Dryden, while Michael Hall replaced the suspended Chris Reid.

And Morpeth started the game strongly, Joe Walton’s cross nodded goal wards by Henderson, a fine save by Dawson keeping him at bay.

The visitors responded on 11 minutes, Thibault Charmey taking aim from range, Provett easily up to the task, however.

The opening goal came from a set piece 25 yard out from goal. Graydon hit a low effort of the wall and into the bottom left hand corner, the ‘keeper left helpless from the deflection.

Henderson was twice more denied by Dawson before the break, with Walton also denied by the Guisborough stopper.

With almost the last kick off the half, Ben Sayer hit the bar direct from a corner for the second game running.

Just three minutes into the second half Dawson was called into action again, Sayer’s delightful through ball was met by Walton who forced a diving stop to keep the deficit at one.

In the 50th minute Mark Davison saw his curling effort tipped away one handed by Dawson, and one minute Henderson was denied once more.

Henderson finally got the goal his play deserved in the 52nd minute, breaking through the Guisborough backline before firing into the bottom left hand corner to double the lead.

Town added a third with 20 minutes remaining, Henderson again on target with Walton the provider, rifling the ball into the roof of the net from inside the area.

Guisborough looked for a route back into the game, but two fine saves from Provett to deny Matty Pennal kept the Highwaymen’s clean sheet.

The icing was put on the cake with less than 60 second left in normal time, Paul Robinson’s through ball converted by Steven Anderson to complete the scoring.
