Morpeth Town are delighted to welcome Tom Potter to the club after he joined from Whitley Bay.
The winger, who goes straight into contention for our trip to Belper Town, made a big impact at Hillheads during his time there but admitted the challenge of competing at a higher level was too good to turn down.
Having played against Morpeth in previous seasons, the 22-year-old saw the challenge of competing for a place in the side as one he would relish.
“We have played Morpeth a few times last year and they were the best team we played against by a mile, so it was a good move for me,” said the midfielder, who has spent time in North Carolina on a sport scholarship prior to returning to England to continue his studies in surveying.
“I thought I’d enjoy a new league and a new challenge. I’m still at university so the travelling is not much of an issue for me.
“Leaving Whitley and going up a league its going to be a better standard and better players. I knew that would be the case so competition for places is no concern to me.”
The midfielder also had a word of thanks for his former club Whitley Bay.
“I’d like to thank Whitley Bay for everything they have done for me during my time there. I’ve been there for a few years and have enjoyed it,” he added.
Manager Nick Gray feels Potter will bring something different to side as Morpeth’s array of attacking talent is further strengthened.
“He will give us something we haven’t got. He’s hungry and has got good potential. He’s quick and he brings something to the final third which we needed. He’s wanting to step up from the Northern League which we want; hungry players who want to improve.”

Town have also taken trialist Julien Petrache on a more permanent basis after the defender impressed during pre-season.
“He came on trial during pre-season and in that case it is down to the player to grasp the chance and he has done so with both hands,” added Gray.
“He’s physical and commanding. There’s still things he can work on but he gives us a big physical presence which maybe was lacking in the squad.”

Also joining the squad for the new campaign is goalkeeper Dimitris Tsapalos, after the Greek impressed the management team over the summer.
“He has joined on a two-year deal,” said boss Gray.
“He’s looking for games in England so we’re looking to find him games. We’ve got Dan Lowson but he wants to compete with him. We’re going to look to get him out on loan for some game-time first.”
