Morpeth Town are delighted to confirm that midfielder Luke Carr has signed a contract with the club for the 2017-18 season.

The 23-year-old won the FA Vase with Morpeth in 2016, but only featured three times the following season after suffering an injury against West Allotment Celtic.

Carr departed for Australia in January, where he played for Holland Park Hawks in the Brisbane Premier League, and his return is big news for the club.

“I’m buzzing to be back,” Carr said. “When I knew I was coming home, there was only one team that I wanted to play for.

“The lads came very close to winning the league last year, and were unlucky not to get a few trophies. Hopefully, this year, we can go all the way.”

The playmaker has made 67 appearances and has scored 21 goals for the Highwaymen since signing in 2015 from Durham City.

Carr, who made his professional debut aged 18, played an crucial role in the Vase success in the 2015-16 season, and made 47 appearances during that campaign – scoring 16 goals along the way.

He added: “Personally, I’d like a minimum of 15 goals with even more assists. In terms of the team, I’m expecting us to emulate South Shields and do a clean sweep this year.”

Co-manager Nick Gray is delighted to have re-signed Luke for the new season, and believes that he is the best player in the league on his day.

Gray said: “It’s great to see Luke back. He’s a great lad, who’s good to have around the squad. Things are never boring when he’s about.

“On his day, he’s one of the best players in the league, and on other days, he’s the most frustrating player in the league. But we’re all happy to have him back.”

Carr may well feature in Morpeth’s first pre-season game of the summer against Berwick Rangers on Saturday, 8 July, kick-off is 3:00pm.
