After the midweek abandonment at Sunderland RCA, Morpeth Town will just be happy to complete their clash with Newton Aycliffe on Saturday!

The struggling Newtonians travel to Craik Park to face an in-form Highwaymen outfit, at home at least, who will be out to maintain their position at the top of the Division One tree.

SNAPSHOT PREVIEW

FORM: Newton Aycliffe’s form has deserted them in the previous six games and despite one victory most recently, they have, more damagingly lost five of those six matches. That solitary win did come on the road however, a cause for some optimism, but they will have their work cut out at Craik Park.

On home soil, Morpeth are unbeatable at present, winning their previous three. A statistic of note is an average of over two goals per game, making the Highwaymen a dangerous opponent.

LAST GAME: A rare victory for Newton Aycliffe arrived during the week with a 2-0 win at Bishop Auckland. Only their second three-point haul of the campaign, Ben Trotter gave them the lead on 28 minutes before Kurt Matthews doubled their advantage on 51 minutes.

As bizarre a game as you will see, Morpeth’s last encounter lasted until just after the 50-minute mark. That was when the officials – lead by one of the assistant referees – decided to abandon the game due to fog. Up until that point, Town had been back to their outstanding selves, Mark Davison scoring in the 16th minute prior to an own goal following a near-post scramble from a 39th minute Ben Sayer corner from the right.

ONE TO WATCH: Craig Hutchinson was a man in unstoppable form last season, notching an incredible 51 goals in Division Two. That form saw him make the step up to the top tier where he will be keen to make a similar mark for Aycliffe.

WHERE TO WATCH: Craik Park, Morpeth, Northumberland.
