Morpeth Town play only their second game in 17 days when they welcome Stockton Town to Craik Park for what is sure to be an absorbing encounter (7.30pm). The visitors are a team on the move and the third best performing team in Division One heading into a clash with the in-form Highwaymen.

SNAPSHOT PREVIEW

FORM: Morpeth are a team determined to scoop all in front of them at present as they aim to complete what would be an incredible quadruple. So far the Cleator Cup sits in the trophy cabinet and the Highwaymen are still in the League Cup and Senior Cup competitions, along with being in the hunt for the Division One title. They have scored two or more in their last seven league and cup games and have scored at least once in every game since the start of September.

It took eight defeats at the start of the campaign to galvanise Stockton but since then they haven’t looked back. Fourteen wins from their next 19 league encounters emphasises the threat posed by the team from the Middlesbrough area. However, they still sit seventh despite that run of form, highlighting the damaging effect of those early season losses. In league and cup most recently, they have only been beaten twice in 11 outings.

LAST GAME: Morpeth head into this one fresh from a 6-0 thumping of bottom side Billingham Synthonia. Ben Sayer’s early strike set the Highwaymen on the road to victory before Joe Walton doubled the advantage in the first half. A Mark Davison hat-trick put the visitors out of sight, with a superb solo Sean Taylor goal securing an emphatic 6-0 win.

Although they only won 2-1 at North Shields in a tight game, the nature of the win will have been a massive boost to Stockton Town. With the game seemingly meandering towards a draw, the Anchors’ Adi Nick scored a dramatic 90th minute winner as they moved into the next round of the League Cup.
