New Morpeth Town midfielder Paul Robinson described a “great momentum around the place” as he signed for the Highwaymen on Monday Evening.

Robinson, 32, joined Town at the end of last season on a dual contract with his previous club Blyth Spartans, featuring in the final three league games of the season, scoring once and assisting four more.

And Robinson suggested his brief spell at the club in May swayed his decision to join the club for the 2016/17 season.

“Obviously, I enjoyed my time at the club at the back end of last season and got a feel for the place.

“I knew a few of the lads anyway, they play some good football and we have some really, really good players here.

The midfielder began his career at Newcastle United before moving to Tranmere Rovers before moving to York City and later to Newcastle Blue Star.

Robinson was then part of the famous Whitley Bay side that won three successive FA Vase wins and dubbed the ‘Hillheads Maradona,’ scoring at Wembley in Bay’s 6-1 win over Wroxham, and he is keen to make another trip to the National Stadium.

“It would be nice to maybe go back to Wembley.

“Speaking to the chairmen and manager, they’ve got plans to get bigger and better, I want to be part of theat.

“You have to set your sights high, and this seems the place to be right now.”
