Following Saturday’s comprehensive 4-0 victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels, we take a look at 3 things that we learned from that game.

  1. Sam Hodgson may end up with a goal this season.

He may not be known as someone who is going to end up troubling the scoring charts this season but on Saturday, Hodgson came within a whisker of opening up his account for Morpeth. The defensive-minded player strode forward to support play and when he was picked out 25yrds from goal he cracked a drive that whistled over the bar. If he continues to get forward in the remainder of the season, we may yet see his first goal.

  1. We don’t suffer from the away day blues.

Since tasting defeat at Loughborugh back in November, we have won every away league game and scored 11 goals in the process whilst only conceding once. Saturday saw us embark on a run of 4 successive away games, with league trips to Lincoln United and Pickering Town, our away form is looking very impressive and long may it continue.

  1. Substitutes make an impact.

We sometimes see substitutions just to run the clock down as a team looks to see a game out but on Saturday, Joe Walton played the role of super sub. Coming on for the final 20 minutes, many players would struggle to make an impact but not Joe. Firstly, he set up the goal for Liam Henderson to make the game safe at 3-0 and then got his name on the scoresheet when he added the fourth in added time.
