Morpeth Town 2-2 Basford United

Four goals and two red cards were on show as we earned a point against Basford United at Craik Park on Saturday afternoon.

It took 35 minutes for a chance of substance when Highwaymen forward Nic Bollado crossed to Luke James who tried to glance the ball into the far corner with his foot but it flew narrowly wide.

The breakthrough was found eight minutes later when Sam Hodgson received the ball in a pocket of space outside the box and had the time to curl the ball into the top corner.

Basford came out for the second period with more purpose and instantly came close when Jack Goodman fired from a tight angle but Dan Langley navigated his feet to block the effort.

They found an equaliser just before the hour mark when Tyreece Palmer headed in from close-range to draw level.

The visitors’ challenge got a whole lot more difficult just minutes after when Jamie Williamson decided to put in a crunching challenge on James after the whistle had already gone, which he was dismissed for.

In the blink of an eye the game was 2-2 soon after, first Jeff Henderson bundled home a corner for the hosts, before Jacob Gratton equalised with a well-taken finish a minute later.

Things got harder for Basford when they were reduced to nine men as Ethan Stewart was sent off for a stamp on Jack Foalle with five minutes to play.

There were chances for both sides in an end-to-end climax but neither could snatch the three points from one another.

Morpeth XI: Langley; Evans, Buddle, Henderson (C), Robson (Foalle 65′), Gibson-Booth; Barlow, Hodgson (CM) (Dowling 60′); James, Hodgson (ST), Bollado.
