Morpeth Town Chairman Ken Beattie has issued the following statement regarding the FA’s ratification of their decision to finish the league season early and make it null and void:

I send this message in the hope that everyone associated with Morpeth Town FC – players, management, committee, helpers and supporters – are keeping well and safe during these torrid times. This is definitely an inappropriate time to talk about football when people are dying, families suffering and our brave heroes of the NHS are putting their lives on the line every day.

I therefore want to say little on our beloved game except to say the FA made absolutely the right decision in abandoning the season; they simply had no choice, the reasons of which are well documented.

Going forward, we await to see how issues will unfold with regards when we will play football again; who knows when that will be? In the meantime, we are working diligently behind the scenes to progress the club on and off the field so we can start the new season fully prepared, whenever it is. Hopefully we can continue where we left off as we achieved so much last season by making a county cup final, getting to the quarter-finals of the League Cup and still being in with a chance of the league championship.
