Morpeth Town manager Nick Gray was delighted to sign Callum Williams from Spennymoor Town.

The defender, who can play across the back-line, joined the club with plenty of Spenny fans disappointed to see him go. After previously playing for Newcastle United, the talented Williams will be keen to feature regularly at Craik Park. That desire and hunger are features which turned Gray into a fan.

“I coached Callum at Wallsend Boys Club before he went to Newcastle United,” Gray told the club’s website.

“He’s always been a hungry, committed player who wants to always improve. I tried to get him when he left Newcastle but I’m delighted to have got him now and I know Morpeth fans will love him.”

The player himself was delighted to feel wanted by the Highwaymen, who moved quickly to get the deal done.

“It was Nick who persuaded me to come,” added Williams.

“He told me about the ambition of the club and just how much he wanted me at the club, which made me feel good. With the chairman wanting to come and meet me, that made me feel wanted.”
