New Morpeth Town defender Matthew Grieve is ‘delighted’ to be back with the Highwaymen, signing from Ashington last Monday.

Centre-back Grieve, who was a member of the Morpeth Town squad who finished eighth and reached the Northumberland Senior Cup final during the 2014/15 season, will rejoin a squad that went on to win the FA Vase in May, also finishing in fourth in the Northern League.

“I’m delighted, I’ve always wanted to come back” Grieve said on signing.

The 6″3 defender praised the clubs FA Vase win, and suggests one of the reasons why he re-signed for the club was the ambition of the management team.

“With the success of the Vase, I think speaking to Nick and Ken, the target is to win the FA Vase again, and win the league next year.

“They have targets, and I want to be involved.”

Grieve will be no stranger to the dressing room, and believes that familiarity will hold him in good stead as he re-acclimatises to the club.

“They are a great set of lads, a really, really good bunch.

“It’s a great dressing room to be a part of, and I’m delighted to be back.”

He has made 34 appearances in the amber and black shirt of Morpeth, scoring once in the 14/15 season before signing for the Colliers.

Matty has previously had three spells at Ashington after leaving the Newcastle United academy, and has also played for Darlington and the now defunct Celtic Nation.
