A memorable night at St James’ Park ended in disappointment for Morpeth Town as they were beaten 3-1 in the final of the Techflow Senior Cup by Newcastle United Under-23s.
The Highwaymen had hauled themselves level courtesy of Liam Henderson, the striker netting from close range on the stroke of half-time to cancel out Callum Roberts’ opener. However, Newcastle would pull clear in the second half, with Roberts adding a second before Dan Barlaser’s stoppage-time free-kick sealed cup glory for United.
