Michael Turner believes his new contract highlights how far he has come as a player, after the defender penned a two-year deal.

Turner, who joined with the Highwaymen in Northern League Division One, has been an outstanding and consistent performer for the club since arriving from South Shields.

And he feels that the extension of his stay at Craik Park symbolises his form up to this point.

“I’m pleased with it. Not only does it tell me what the club think of me, but how I’ve come on as a player,” he told the club website.

“I think I had been on a decent run of form before the season was cut short, but that goes to show the calibre and experience of players around me.”

Turner has been a solid part of an ever-improving back-line, which often boasts the best defensive stats in whatever division they are in.

This was certainly the case in the title-winning campaign two seasons ago. But as the club has moved up the divisions at pace, Turner has risen to every challenge.

“The management and players have helped me adapt quicker than I imagined I could,” he continued.

“But having top quality players around you helps a hell of a lot; it makes you feel comfortable.”

Turner has been amazed by what has unfolded in three short years at the club, with trophies and titles in plentiful supply.

“I’ll be honest, I was a bit dubious about joining from South Shields as I only knew two players and Davey Malone (former joint boss); I hadn’t been around playing for very long,” he added.

“What we have achieved as a team in the three years I’ve been here is fantastic. It’s just a shame I wasn’t here a year earlier for the FA Vase final win at Wembley; that would have been a dream come true.”
