Morpeth Town are delighted to announce the signing of Kris Thackray from Spennymoor Town.

The 31-year-old, who can play in defence and midfield, started out at Newcastle United before being released at 16 and signing for Serie A side Reggina. He spent a season on loan at Monopoli, where he won the club’s player of the season award.

Three moves in Italy followed, prior to a spell in in the Maltese Premier Division with Qormi. A stint in Germany with Alemannia Aachen and KFC Uerdingen, and a return to Malta, then followed before he signed for Moors.

“We are delighted to get Kris on board, “He has played professionally in Europe, so comes with excellent pedigree. He also featured regularly for Spennymoor last season; we feel this is another excellent addition for Morpeth Town.”
Assistant Manager Jon McDonald

The Highwaymen have had a busy start to the summer with the additions of Thackray and Sean Reid (from Blyth Spartans), both from National League North. David and Danny Carson have departed, along with Jordan Fry.
