Morpeth Town is delighted to announce that Josh Robson has joined the club for the new Pitching In NPL Premier Division season.

A defender by trade, the 24-year is a product of Sunderland’s academy before heading to Norway, initially on loan, to play for four years.

Upon returning to the UK, Bedlington-born Robson featured for Blyth Spartans at the tail end of last season in National League North as they enjoyed an upturn in fortunes.

Opting to join the project at Craik Park, Robson is happy to be part of the squad and eager to get started when the players return on June 30th for the start of pre-season training.

“We’ve got a fantastic set-up here, a great fanbase and after speaking to the gaffer it sounds like a fantastic project so I’m really excited to get going,” he said.

“With my background, I’ve been away for four years now so I’m really excited to be back in the UK playing for my local club… almost!

“For me it is about developing my game and getting to know the English game better as well. The manager has outlined he wants a strong start to the season and has aspirations to finish right up there.”

Town manager Craig Lynch was delighted to get Robson on board, following the departures of Joe Walton and Stephen Forster over the summer.

“I’m glad to get Josh signed up for the season,” he said.

“Right back was a very important area we needed to recruit for. Josh has a very strong background with coming through at Sunderland and playing a high number of games in the reserve team and featuring in first team matchday squads before going to Norway.

“He’s had time with Blyth to get himself back involved in the game and has the attributes I look for in a full back. I’m looking forward to seeing him play this season.”

Not many English players take the route of playing abroad, but Robson embraced the opportunity of playing in Norway.

“I wanted to try something new,” he added.

“I’ve never shied away from a new challenge and a new adventure. At the time, it was the best option for me and I fully enjoyed my time over there.

“It’s a beautiful country, fantastic people, but I had to get used to the food – you get used to it over time! I fully enjoyed it and have no regrets going over there.”
