Morpeth Town forward Jack Foalle believes leaving at the end of last season ‘wouldn’t have sat right’ after COVID-19 ended the campaign prematurely.

Former Whitley Bay man Foalle penned a new two-year deal recently and is determined to have another crack at NPL Premier Division promotion, whenever the new season starts.

“Part of it is unfinished business,” Foalle told the club website when discussing his new deal.

“I truly believe we would have been promoted before the season was brought to an end and to leave the club on a bitter note of what could have been just wouldn’t have sat right with me.
“I think, as a team, we have learnt a lot about the league and how it differs from the previous league we competed in.

“We haven’t played the best football throughout the season but there aren’t a lot of teams who do play football in the league; it’s a lot of back and forth and work on winning the second ball rather than building up from the back.

“It took until around Christmas for us to understand this and it’s not a surprise that our form was right up there in the back end of the season.”

The forward netted 11 goals during the course of the season, including an impressive hat-trick as Town came from 2-0 down at Buxton to snatch victory late on.

Despite posting decent stats, Foalle is determined to add more.

“I still set a high standard for myself to do more on the pitch and my middle half of the season needs to improve from last year,” continued Foalle.

“I went a long period without scoring. Teams will be better around us and, if anything, it will be harder this time around as teams won’t underestimate the club now. They will have done their homework to understand our strengths and weaknesses.”
