Morpeth Town travel to Liversedge for a midweek clash in Yorkshire in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

Recently promoted after a title winning season in NPL East, Liversedge have started life competitively in the division above and will provide a stern test for the Highwaymen, who themselves are buoyed by a 2-0 home win over Matlock Town on Saturday.

With Morpeth earning their first three points of the campaign, and Liversedge having won one, drawn one, and lost one (including a win at Whitby and a draw at Bamber Bridge) both sides will be keen to get another victory under their belts.

LAST TIME OUT

Morpeth gained a first win of the season after a goal in each half saw off goal-shy Matlock Town. The Highwaymen took the lead through a sensational Liam Noble drive from distance, before an Ioan Evans own goal, bundling into his own goal at the near post, ensured Town would get their first points on the board.

Liversedge needed to dig deep at Bamber Bridge to earn a share of the spoils. Trailing 2-0 with 20 minutes to go, James Walshaw gave the visiting Liversedge a glimmer of hope. Then, deep into stoppage time (six minutes to be accurate), Joseph Walton (not that one!) headed home an equaliser.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth Town manager Craig Lynch is aware of the challenges that come with a Tuesday night away day, but believes his side are more than up for it.

He said: “Any midweek game away from home is tough. Saturday filled us with a load of confidence and we are now looking to build on that and push forward.”
