Morpeth Town make the long trip to Matlock Town on Saturday as they seek to snap a six-game losing run.

Two much improved performances in their last two games puts the Highwaymen in optimistic mood heading to the Proctors Cars Stadium for this Pitching In NPL Premier Division clash.

LAST TIME OUT

Morpeth were at home last time out when losing 1-0 to league leaders South Shields. Despite the result, confirmed by a 43rd minute Tom Broadbent header for the visitors, Town played well and were rarely flustered throughout the contest.

With Josh King particularly impressive in the right-back position, the performance itself bodes well for future matches.

Matlock Town did not enjoy their first footing of 2023, falling to a heavy 3-0 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity.

Curtis Durose scored on the half-hour mark for the hosts, before Liam Waldock netted on 58 minutes. Clayton Donaldson then added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time with a penalty.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth boss Craig Lynch is well aware of the challenge that lies ahead but is confident after seeing an upturn in performance from his side in the last two games.

“There’s no easy team in the league. We’ve got Matlock on Saturday but we’re going to go there full of confidence,” he said after seeing his team lose 1-0, but play well, against league leaders South Shields.

“The lads are still flying for us, they’re still giving everything for us and I can’t ask for any more.”

Matlock Town are hoping to extend the loan of Eddie Church from Bradford Park Avenue, with manager Martin Carruthers also in discussions with a goalkeeper, midfielder, and another forward.

Brad Abbott is out for four to six weeks and Mark Lees has left the club for personal reasons.
