Morpeth Town welcome Hyde United to Craik Park for a Pitching In NPL Premier Division clash of two sides in form.

The Tigers sit fourth after an unbeaten start, with the Highwaymen rising up the table after successive victories in the last week.

It promises to be an intriguing game as both sides seek to solidify a decent start to the campaign.

LAST TIME OUT

Morpeth looked far too good for Liversedge in midweek as they beat their hosts 4-1 on a Tuesday night in Yorkshire. Despite trailing through James Walshaw’s strike on 36 minutes, they rallied and led by half-time thanks to Chris Reid and Jack Foalle both capitalising on goalkeeping errors. Dale Pearson lashed home on 67 minutes to put Town in control and Connor Thomson sealed matters in the 88th minute capping off a fine team move.

Hyde were indebted to striker Jack Redshaw as his brace in the closing stages saw off struggling Belper Town. The latest victory propelled them into fourth and maintained the feel-good factor of their season.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth Town manager Craig Lynch knows a tough challenge lies ahead for the Highwaymen, against a side riding the crest of a wave.

“They’ve got a really good management team and they’ll be hard to beat. It will be another tough game for us,” he said.

“But even in the two games we’ve lost, we’ve been really good this season and as long as we don’t do anything silly then we’ll be hard to beat.

“If they come and beat us fair and square then that’s fair enough.”

Hyde United manager Nick Spooner, delighted by his side’s 2-0 midweek win, knows a competitive league will provide no easy fixture, especially with a trip to Morpeth.

“It’s tough place to go to. They’ve got an experienced squad. This league is unforgiving and there’s no easy place to go.

“We’ve started well. We set a target to get six points in the last two games and the boys have achieved that.”
