Morpeth Town host Lancaster City in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying round at Craik Park in a familiar match up between two sides in the same division.

An all-NPL Premier Division contest, Town face the Dolly Blues for the sixth time in 12 months.

LAST TIME OUT

A Tuesday night clash with an impressive Bamber Bridge outfit saw Morpeth earn a share of the spoils after taking the lead in the first half, through Sam Fishburn’s 21st minute tap-in. The forward, scoring his second goal in two games, finished off a move that started with Michael Turner’s raking through ball that released Connor Thomson in behind down the left. Bridge responded after 75 minutes through Fin Sinclair Smith, following a straight red card for Jeff Henderson after a debatable call by the referee.

Lancaster City’s last outing came a week ago when they welcomed Belper Town to Giant Axe. Despite taking an early lead through Bradley Carroll’s second minute effort, they couldn’t hold on against fellow strugglers Belper Town, conceding with two minutes to go as James Carvell snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat.

THE GAFFER

Highwaymen boss Craig Lynch is all too aware of the positive effects of a cup run and is hopeful of something similar this time round in the Trophy.

“For Morpeth fans, last year might have been one of the best years since winning the Vase. I know we won the league below our current level but I don’t think it had the same energy in the squad as the Trophy run,” said Lynch.

“There was the Boston game, when we’re getting beat and win 4-3. The buzz of beating Bromsgrove, all of this carried us through the winter months, that togetherness.

“These good days, that’s what we’re looking to do again. I don’t care what I’m playing – five-a-side, friendlies – I want to win.”
