Getting a sense of déjà vu, Morpeth Town face Warrington Town for the third time this season…and we’re only in September!

If the Highwaymen are to progress any further in this season’s Emirates FA Cup then they’ll need to overcome the Wire in tonight’s First Qualifying Round replay.

LAST TIME OUT

Both sides fought tooth and nail to seal a victory last time out, but the original fixture in this First Qualifying Round tie ended in a 2-2 draw.

Warrington took the lead through Luke Duffy’s opener, only for Jack Foalle to equalise, after a quickly taken Chris Reid free-kick was flicked on by Josh Scott.

The visitors would retake the lead before the break, thanks to Stefan Mols’ powerful shot. This was the difference between the two teams until the 57th minute when Ben Ramsey was felled in the area, allowing Connor Thomson to confidently slot home the penalty and equalise for a second time in the game.

Despite sporadic late chances, both sides had to settle for a second crack at qualification tonight at Cantilever Park.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth Town manager Craig Lynch knows all too well the dangers possessed by Warrington Town, having already played at Cantilever Park on opening day.

Tonight will be the third time the Highwaymen and Warrington have clashed this season, with Lynch relishing the opportunity to progress in the Emirates FA Cup.

“We seem to play Warrington four or five times a season!” he said.

“We know it is going to be another tough task. We’ve got to go there full of confidence, we’ve got nothing to lose so we’ll enjoy it.”

Warrington manager Mark Beesley was disappointed with the result on Saturday and the need for a replay tonight.

“I think based on the first-half performance (on Saturday), it wouldn’t be a result we’d take,” he said.

“We’ve played really well but we’ve missed too many chances that we need to be scoring. We need to be more ruthless in the final third and start finishing these chances.”
