Morpeth Town are on the road for successive Saturdays as they make the trip to Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday afternoon.

With the Highwaymen buoyed by a dominant 6-3 win over Lancaster City on Tuesday night, they can make serious headway into the play-off places by combining a win at Bower Fold with results going their way elsewhere.

LAST TIME OUT

Stalybridge Celtic have had an indifferent start to the campaign and continued that with a poor 2-0 defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Belper Town. Two goals in three minutes on the 20-minute mark was the difference on Tuesday night as new Belper boss Steve Kittrick enjoyed a winning start.

Morpeth were relentless as they bagged the most goals they’ve scored in a single competitive game this season, with all of the back four getting in on the scoring act. Ryan Wombwell was on a hat-trick for the final 23 minutes, while Jack Foalle made it six for the campaign with a goal just after half-time of this 6-3 hammering of struggling Lancaster City.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth Town manager Craig Lynch wants a more convincing follow-up to an encouraging midweek home win when the Highwaymen travel to Greater Manchester once again. The previous Tuesday saw Morpeth beat high-flying Ashton United, only to lose at Radcliffe. Lynch doesn’t want a repeat.

“This Saturday it’s about us and our mentality,” he said.

“We need to back up our win on Tuesday night with a solid away performance. Like I say every other week, there’s no easy away game in the league.

“You can’t underestimate anyone but it’s up to us this weekend to show what we are about.”
