Morpeth Town endured a night to forget as they were thumped 7-0 at Worksop Town in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

The Highwaymen got off to the worst possible start, conceding just two minutes in as Paul Green finished following Liam Hughes’ knockdown.

The striker would get his own goal five minutes later, getting a touch at the near post to guide it home, as the tone of the evening was set for the visitors.

Morpeth would find themselves three down after just 20 minutes when Jay Rollins was played through and gleefully smashed a shot into the far top corner.

With the visitors unable to get anything like a foothold in a game, they were 4-0 down by the 31st minute when Vaughan Redford dispatched an excellent shot into the far corner.

Morpeth stemmed the flow somewhat at the start of the second half, but conceded a fifth on 70 minutes through Redford, before Aleks Starcenko came off the bench and scored within 60 seconds of getting on the pitch on 72 minutes.

There was still time for Redford to complete his hat-trick on 82 minutes and consign Morpeth to a heavy away day defeat.

The Highwaymen will be hoping for a significant improvement when they travel to Stafford Rangers on Saturday.
