Morpeth Town are delighted to welcome Gateshead’s Ryan Wombwell to Craik Park on loan for the rest of the season.

The defender, who had been on loan at Marske United recently, joins the Highwaymen and goes straight into the squad for the trip to Grantham Town in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

Part of the same academy set-up as Ben Ramsey and James Anderson, he signed for Sunderland midway through his first season at Park View Academy.

Following his release from the Black Cats, he joined Gateshead before a spell at NPL East side Marske.

But Morpeth moved quickly to secure his services, with Wombwell looking to get some much-needed game time at Craik Park.

“Personally, I want to come in and just play as many games as possible and learn different aspects of the game to develop as a player,” he said.

“In terms of the team’s ambitions, we’re not far off the play-offs and a good run of results could put us right in the mix, so that’s got to be the aim.

“I know Ben Ramsey, we are the same age and have played together and against each other for a while and we get along well.

I also know Shawsy (Club Head of Sports Science Steven Shaw) as well; I’ve worked with him before so it will be good to see them and work with them again.”

Manager Craig Lynch was delighted to get Wombwell on board, with the squad shows signs of being stretched beyond their limits at stages this season.

“We were looking to bolster the squad for the final months of the season and when we knew Ryan was available we jumped at the chance of getting him in,” said the Morpeth boss.

“Ryan can play a number of positions and will add good competition for places till the end of the season.”
