Morpeth Town were delighted to welcome a club record 1,456 supporters for our Techflow Marine Senior Cup clash with Newcastle United Under-23s on Tuesday night.
Breaking the previous club record by 200, the Highwaymen put on quite a show as they eased past their professional, full-time opponents 2-0 to secure a place in the Senior Cup final, where they will face Northern League outfit North Shields at St James’ Park.
Due to be played at the back end of April or early May, Town’s season is set to finish on one of the biggest footballing stages in England.
“It was fantastic to see such a big crowd backing us,” said chairman Ken Beattie.
“We have worked hard to draw attention to the club amongst the local community and they have responded magnificently.
“We’re delighted to have won and delivered a cup final at St James’ Park for our fans.”
