Morpeth Town are on their travels and hoping to progress to the next round when they journey to Newcastle Benfield.

The Techflow Marine Senior Cup is at the quarter-final stage, with the victor knowing Whitley Bay at home awaits in the last four.

FORM GUIDE

Morpeth: The Highwaymen are putting that poor run of form behind them with each passing game and have a draw and a win in their last two. Each positive result pushes those six straight losses further out of sight.

Benfield: Four league wins and two defeats is good form heading into this one, with Benfield scoring four or more on three of those occasions. However, they’ve conceded four in their last two outings.

LAST TIME OUT

Newton Aycliffe were 2-0 up at half-time and 4-1 ahead by the 67th minute as they deservedly took all three points at the expense of hosting Benfield. Although Newcastle reduced the deficit in the closing stages, they weren’t looking like getting on level terms.

The Highwaymen put in a superb display to beat third in the table Gainsborough Trinity 2-0.

Both goals came in the first half, with Andrew Johnson and Ben Ramsey netting their first goals of the season.

Despite attempts to get back into the game, Gainsborough couldn’t find a way through as Morpeth earned a first win since October.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth boss Craig Lynch wants his side to get the job done on Wednesday night when they travel to Sam Smiths Park.

The game has already been postponed once but with the weather much milder, a shot at the semi-finals is within the Highwaymen’s grasp.

“Tonight is about mentality and keeping the confidence high by doing the fundamentals correctly,” he said.

“It’s not going to be an easy game as Benfield won’t roll over for us.

“I have made it clear the Senior Cup final is our target and to achieve that we need to have the right mindset to progress in this competition.”
