Morpeth Town striker Liam Henderson believes a settled squad has been key to recent success.

The current crop of players are all committed to another campaign at Craik Park, with Henderson one of a number agreeing a two-year contract recently to stay with the Highwaymen.

After scoring 13 times and assisting directly in 14 goals, the forward had a hugely productive campaign last time out, despite Town playing in the NPL Premier Division for the first time in their history.

“It’s always nice to be offered another deal as it shows that I must have been doing something right to be offered it,” Henderson told the club website.

“It’s a good place to play football here and it always helps that you have a solid group of players and coaching staff that are all looking to go in the same direction.

“We were well placed to get at least a play-off place, so it’s unfortunate that the season came to a premature end. However, looking at the death toll and the severity of the current situation we are in, it was the correct call.”

As clubs tentatively start to look towards next season, Henderson holds lofty ambitions for his side.

“You always need to improve year on year,” he continued.

“I think, with a couple additions, there’s no reason why we can’t go again next year and be in amongst it at the right end of the table.”
