Ambition is a powerful motivating force in any walk of life.

It was the main driving as Vinnie Steels opted to make the step up to life in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division after joining Morpeth Town for the new season.

A hugely talented winger, the left-footed 21-year-old has featured for York City, Burnley, Sunderland, and most recently Shildon, making in excess of 30 appearances in NPL East.

He’s a player that seeks to get on the front foot and he shone in a side that ultimately were relegated to the Northern League.

“I was tempted by Morpeth because of my ambition to play as high as possible and believe Morpeth’s pitch suits me down to the ground with being a big 3G surface,” he said upon signing.

“My ambition is to play as high as possible and aim to be the best player in my position in any league I’m playing in.

“Life in professional clubs has taught me plenty, but it has mainly taught me to work as hard as I can to improve and express myself to play at the level I know I’m capable of.”

Highwaymen boss Craig Lynch

“Vinnie is another player that wants to push on and play higher,” he said.

“He has chosen to come to us to do that having received good offers to play below. He has had a good upbringing within Sunderland and Burnley’s youth systems and got used to senior football last season at Shildon.

“He can play on ither wing and has a good eye for a pass.”
