Ryan Hutchinson has called on his Morpeth Town squad to aim for promotion next season in the NPL Premier Division.

Despite no set start date for the new campaign – following the early ending of the previous one due to the Coronavirus pandemic – clubs are planning ahead, with players retained and released across the country.

Hutchinson, who signed from Blyth Spartans midway through the season, was superb, making a starting spot his own thanks to a string of impressive displays. That has resulted in a two-year deal for the defender.

“I came in last season and really enjoyed it; it’s a great club and we have a quality squad,” Hutchinson told the club website.

“I still think it took me a few games to get going but we were in good form and the confidence in the squad was high so that helped me settle in when I first arrived.”

After a season which left the Highwaymen marooned in ninth place before it finished, on a 10-game unbeaten spell, Hutchinson believes that campaign should galvanise the squad to think of challenging for promotion next season.

“I think we should be aiming for promotion,” he added.

“Obviously it will be a tough ask but we are definitely capable.”
