Supporters Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season isn’t a bad mark to leave at a club you initially joined on loan for four months.

For Morpeth Town’s latest loan signing, South Shields midfielder Will Jenkins, that was a tangible lasting impression he left at Dunston UTS, where he spent a productive campaign in NPL East, seeing his loan deal extended until the end of the season and gaining regular game time.

He’s certainly hoping for more of the same at Craik Park, where he is initially staying until after the New Year’s Day fixtures.

“Personally, at Dunston, it was a successful season. I played every minute of every game when I was fit, scored 10 goals, assists in double figures so I was pleased with my numbers,” he said.

“Morpeth is an attractive club for me because I’m a local lad and playing in the Northern Premier League will be a good test for me as I was in the East Division last season.

“It’s a good step up and it is a really strong league this year as well. It’s a really attractive option for me to come and play in a squad where I know a few of the lads already.

“I’ve had 50 appearances at this level with South Shields, mostly off the bench, but I have the experience of what it is like to play at this level and I’m looking forward to doing that on a more regular basis.

“That’s what a loan is about – coming in, making a mark and starting as many games as I can. I’ll see where that takes us.”

But what can we expect from Jenkins when he gets his chance to play?

“I’m energetic, I like to get on the ball and create chances for people,” he added.

“I’ve got a good eye for a pass, I like scoring goals, and being a general energetic presence.”
