Morpeth Town’s Academy has appointed a new Head of Academy Recruitment.
Andrew Ferguson has been appointed to the role after leaving Wrexham, where he was Assistant Head of Academy Recruitment. He has also had previous roles at Morecambe, Bury, Sheffield Wednesday, and Hull City.
Fergie is well known in North East circles as he is also first team manager at Northern League side Newcastle Benfield, which will only help opening up further pathway opportunities for our players.
Fergie was part of the coaching team when our academy was originally formed and had this to say on rejoining:
“After deciding to leave Wrexham, I knew that Morpeth Academy was a good fit for me, a great place to be and work, with good staff, and football people,” said Ferguson, who was part of the coaching team when the Academy was first formed.
“I’d like to think I can pass on valuable experience and knowledge to the players, and also the young and new coaches we have at the academy as well, to help drive the development and growth of the Academy both on the pitch and the recruitment side of things.
“Morpeth has an excellent reputation and have a well proven and proper pathway for young lads and girls to firstly learn and achieve academically, or on trades with the college, and play in a fantastic environment and get excellent coaching alongside this.
“The opportunities for the players will also come, if they do well, to step up into the Northern league and Northern Alliance to gain experience, to train and play at a higher level if and when it is the right time for their personal development.
“I think the 26/27 season will hopefully be a fun and rewarding season for the players and staff.”
