Sean Taylor scored a brace to help Morpeth Town get back to winning ways as they edged past Dunston UTS 4-2 at the UTS Stadium.
An own goal from Dale Burrell and a Taylor penalty put the visitors ahead after Scott Heslop gave Dunston the lead early in the game.
Ben Sayer and Taylor asserted Morpeth’s dominance before Burrell bundles the ball home at the right end with over half-an-hour to go.
The visitors held on for an important three points and now face an important week ahead with Whitley Bay and Newton Aycliffe coming to town.
Morpeth suffered their first home loss of the season against South Shields last week, and they responded well by starting quickly.
Taylor drove forward at goal after latching onto Keith Graydon’s through ball, but his strike across the face of goal went inches wide.
Just moments later, Taylor almost turned provider for Paul Robinson, who forced Mark Cook into making a fine save as the ‘keeper just managed to push the ball over the bar.
However, against the run of play, the hosts managed to find the breakthrough on eight minutes.
James Luccock was played in behind full-back Michael Turner, and his first time cross was slid under Karl Dryden by Heslop.
Morpeth continued to play their way and on 20 minutes they drew level in the game.
Sayer played in a brilliant free-kick, which was heading on target before Dunston skipper Burrell struck into his own net.
The hosts almost scored another own goal when Daryll Hall headed Stephen Forster’s cross at goal, but Cook saved his embarrassment.
And Morpeth had their first lead of the game on 32 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Jordan Fry was tripped up in the area.
Taylor stepped up and slotted the spot-kick straight down the middle and the visitors went into the break with the lead.
And once more Morpeth turned on the flair going forward and it took only four minutes after half-time to double their advantage.
Mark Davison rolled the ball to Sayer, who went on a mazing run from halfway, and after he cut back inside, he rolled the ball into the bottom corner.
And a fourth soon followed when Taylor found himself in acres of space after the defence stopped for an offside call.
However, the only player on the pitch to carry on was the wide man, who made no mistake with the finish.
Dunston replied with their second of the afternoon six minutes later, Burrell headed home at the back post from a Liam Thear corner.
Morpeth had to see out a spell of being on the back foot, Heslop headed wide before the forward squandered another good chance, heading a corner straight at Dryden.
However, thereafter, Morpeth took control of the game and were content on keeping the ball and ensuring the momentum was with them.
Substitute Steven Anderson went close before Liam Henderson hooked Graydon’s cross into the side netting.
Danny Capewell was forced to clear Sayer’s effort off the line in additional time, but the visitors managed to pick up a deserved three points.
