The club is pleased to confirm our coaching staff for our men’s academy for the 2026-2027 campaign.
Ryan Donaldson continues as Lead Academy Coach having joined the academy when he signed as a player from Hartlepool United in 2021. Ryan has over 300 professional games under his belt including playing for Newcastle United. UEFA B Licence holder Ryan is still playing at Ashington AFC.
Elliott Forbes joins as an Academy Coach this summer. Elliott is a former professional with Gateshead and has just joined National League North side Hebburn Town from Darlington. UEFA licenced coach Elliott has been coaching for a number of years with younger age groups. He brings his plenty of experience into the academy and is a great role model for our players.
Damian Shanahan joins as an Academy Coach this summer having previously worked with Hartlepool United’s Shadow Academy squads and Under-16’s. UEFA B licence candidate Damian is also assistant manager at Newcastle Benfield, opening up even more pathways for our players.
Our new Head of Academy Recruitment/Academy Coach will be announced when his notice period with an EFL Championship side is completed.
The academy will remain the responsibility of Football Operations Manager Steven Shaw.
