Jeff Henderson has had a busier lockdown than most, it is fair to say.

Welcoming his first child into the world, the centre-back has been adjusting to life with his new daughter – Minnie – after his partner Sally gave birth 10 weeks ago.

Henderson has been able to spend some quality time with the football season ended early and pre-season yet to begin. But it is fair to say he is discovering new times of the day!

“She’s not given us a full night of sleep but she is sleeping enough; I used to think 5am was the middle of the night but that’s my new get-up time,” Henderson told the club website.

“She’s unreal; she’s settled really well and is a bundle of joy. It’s a hard feeling to describe becoming a dad, there’s no feeling like it.

“I’m very proud and grateful. Parts of lockdown have been very good in terms of the time me and Sally have had to spend with her together but, on the flip-side, not being able to meet grandparents and go places for the first eight weeks was a shame.

“But a little bit of normality is starting to happen again so that’s good.”

Part of that normality will see Henderson return to pre-season training, with the Highwaymen due back for their first session on July 4th.

The former Sligo Rovers defender is looking forward to it but knows it will be a shock to the system of a few after such a long time without football.

“I’m looking forward to getting into a routine again and having a bit crack with the lads,” continued Henderson.

“I had a few weeks not doing much with the arrival of the little one, but then started doing a couple of runs a week.

“That soon became tedious so I bought a road bike and have enjoyed going out on that. But it will be a shock to the body at the start; we will sharp get used to it.

“We need to make the most of (the extended pre-season); everyone’s in the same situation so there’s no point moaning about it.”
