Warrington Rylands 1-1 Morpeth Town
The Highwaymen achieved a record-breaking feat in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon as they reached 62 points, beating the previous best of 61 in 2021/22.
In what would have normally been a last day dead rubber between two sides with nothing to play for in terms of promotion and relegation, Craig Lynch’s men continued their attractive brand of football as they searched for history.
The first half allowed for little in the way of chances for either side, as both adapted to a dry, bumpy playing surface – the second period differed.
The half opened with Dan Langley being forced into a tidy one-on-one save with his leg to deny Jake Burton.
Later in the half the side in amber came the closest they had all afternoon when Nic Bollado hit from close range and forced a fantastic reflex save from Luke Pilling, and as the rebound came Jack Foalle was seemingly pulled to the floor, but nothing was given.
Three minutes later the opener arrived when a lovely little move where Leon Gibson-Booth chipped a ball to the back post for Foalle to head back across goal and Danny Barlow was on hand to nod in.
At the death Rylands equalised in the fourth minute of added on time when free kick was headed down by George Waring and bounced into the corner.
Morpeth XI: Langley; Evans, Buddle (King 60′), Henderson (C), Robson, Gibson-Booth; Barlow, Sam Hodgson (CM) (Follin 88′), Dowling (Chater 85′); James (Bollado 74′), Sam Hodgson (ST) (Foalle 63′).
