Morpeth Town’s latest signing Jarrett Rivers is adamant he wants to see the club get ‘where we want to be’ after penning a deal at Craik Park.

Hot on the heels of Luke James committing his future to the club, Morpeth moved to bolster its attacking options with Rivers now on board for the new campaign.

Lastly at Whitby Town in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division, the tricky wide player, who made his name with a fantastic goal in Blyth Spartans’ infamous FA Cup win at Hartlepool United, is now ready to get back on track after an injury-ravaged spell.

“I know the gaffers at Morpeth so when I spoke to them over the summer it was clear they do things properly in terms of training standards which is important to me,” said the former Darlington midfielder.

“Also, every time I’ve played against Morpeth the past couple of seasons they’ve always been good and I’ve been impressed by the way they’ve played.

“I think last season by all accounts they had a lot of injuries that affected the season as a whole so I know they’re desperate to put it right.

“Personally, what I want to achieve is to get back playing regularly again after having a nightmare of a season last year. Obviously, everyone says they want to be competing up the top end of the league but we’ve just got to take it game by game and make sure we’re doing things right to get where we want to be.”

A creative spark in any front line, Rivers’ signature was hailed by Town boss Craig Lynch, who is well aware of his footballing talents.

“Jarrett is a great coup for the club,” said the Morpeth supremo.

“He’s someone I’ve known 10 years now and car schooled when we were both at Blyth. I know his personality and the quality he has.

“He’s got a great CV from non-league to pro and back at good levels of non-league. We keep him fit, manage him well, and he will be brilliant at the level.”
