Jarrow 0-2 Morpeth Town

Morpeth Town took the spoils thanks to a goal in either half from Steven Anderson and Lee McAndrew on a rain soaked evening in Jarrow.
The visitors controlled the majority of the game, but Jarrow threatened on the counter making it a fascinating game to watch.
Morpeth conjured up the first chance of the game after a series of corners. A right wing Keith Graydon corner was headed goal-wards by Michael Hall, only to see his effort cleared off the line by a Jarrow defender.
At the other end Jarrow were denied twice brilliantly by Morpeth stopper Karl Dryden, the second from point blank range. Hall went close twice more for the Highwaymen but that elusive goal continued to allude the team in Amber and Black.
With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Morpeth finally broke the deadlock with a well worked goal. McAndrew was played in down the left before crossing the ball across the six yard box into the path of Anderson who converted past a stranded Jarrow ‘keeper. Morpeth continued to push until half time, but were unable to add to their lead.
The second half brought more of the same, with Morpeth forcing the opposition ‘keeper into a number of saves, whilst also hitting the woodwork twice, one a fizzing effort from the left boot of Jack Betts.
The second goal saw Anderson turn provider as he picked up the ball on the right hand side of the field. He cut inside before lofting a ball to the left edge of the penalty area where McAndrew controlled before unleashing a fierce strike into the back of the net.
Jarrow nearly pulled a goal back late on, but once again Dryden was in imperious form. A 2-0 win for the Highwaymen who next travel to Ryton & Crawcrook Albion on Saturday for a 2.30pm Kick-Off.
