Morpeth Town are next in action when they journey to Warrington Rylands for the second away day in a row in the Pitching In NPL Premier Division.

Seeking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat at Nantwich Town last time out, the Highwaymen will be boosted by a number of players returning from injury, illness, and suspension.

LAST TIME OUT

All the goals came in the final 14 minutes as Warrington Rylands left FC United with a 2-2 draw after a pulsating contest. Regan Linney surely thought he had won the game for United, scoring twice in 10 minutes to see his side 2-0 up with six minutes to go. But Rylands roared back with two goals in two minutes, AJ Leitch-Smith and Sam Egerton restoring parity for the visitors.

Morpeth travelled to struggling Nantwich Town last time out and came unstuck at the Weavers Stadium. After spurning a glorious chance to equalise in the first half through Dale Pearson, Byron Harrison’s goal remained the difference at half-time. Dan Cockerline and Mwiya Malumo added two more within three minutes of each other to kill the game off and consign the Highwaymen to defeat.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth manager Craig Lynch has admitted the current run of form – winless in six – hurts and wants it ended quickly.

“Warrington Rylands have had some exciting games looking from afar, but it’s about us after a few losses and draws,” said the Morpeth boss.

“It hurts when you hit a patchy run of form after so much success in the last year.

“I’ve got enough faith in what I’ve seen from the lads to turn it around.”

Warrington Rylands manager Jody Banim was impressed by his side’s character in the 2-2 draw at FC United and is urging them to build on that foundation with a win against Morpeth.

“It was a really strong performance, I thought in the first half we were utterly dominant,” he said.

“The only disappointing thing is when we’re on top we’re not grabbing that authority.

“We’re a good side, with a good squad of players. We’ve got enough quality in that dressing room to go anywhere in this league.

“We’re a match for anyone in this league.”
