Morpeth Town make the trip to Lancashire on Saturday for their latest Pitching In NPL Premier Division clash at Bamber Bridge.

With the latter within striking distance of second, and Morpeth climbing the table after a draw and a win in the last two games, it’s sure to be an entertaining clash.

FORM GUIDE

Morpeth: The Highwaymen are putting that poor run of form behind them with each passing game and have a draw and a win in their last two. Each positive result pushes those six straight losses further out of sight.

Gainsborough: Bamber have won four of their last five and drew the other to very much impose themselves in the play-off chase. Sitting fifth, they’ve scored 13 in their last five including three or more at Marine and at home to Matlock Town.

LAST TIME OUT

Bamber Bridge roared back from two goals down at half-time to win 3-2 at much-fancied Marine. The latter are having a storming first season after promotion, with Harris and Barrigan (pen) putting them firmly in control.

Whatever was said at half-time certainly did the trick as the visitors reduced the deficit through Scarborough before Sinclair-Smith netted twice to complete a remarkable turnaround.

The Highwaymen put in a superb display to beat third in the table Gainsborough Trinity 2-0.

Both goals came in the first half, with Andrew Johnson and Ben Ramsey netting their first goals of the season.

Despite attempts to get back into the game, Gainsborough couldn’t find a way through as Morpeth earned a first win since October.

THE GAFFER

Morpeth boss Craig Lynch is keen to see his side build on a terrific display in the 2-0 win against Gainsborough at Craik Park.

“Bamber Bridge is one of the best teams in the league,” he said.

“But we go there on the back of two solid results and the last time out against Gainsborough was a really good performance. Scoring two but keeping a cleansheet was great.

“It was a good game at home against Bamber Bridge – we hope that can be replicated again on Saturday.”

Bamber Bridge beat Guiseley 2-1, a far from pretty affair but equally effective in gaining the required points, something that left Brig boss Jamie Milligan pleased.

“We were really good, we stood up to be counted and more than matched them physically,” he told the LEP.

“I think that game last year, we would have got beaten – the players we have got in our squad now are all characters which means we can grind out results.”
